FRUITLAND, Md. - A traffic stop in Fruitland, lead to the arrest of a West Virginia man on weapons charges.

Fruitland Police say on Wednesday, around 1:45 AM, an Officer pulled over a vehicle near S. Fruitland Boulevard and S. Division Street, for speeding. During the stop, the Officer reportedly requested assistance from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit.

Once on scene, the K-9 apparently alerted to the presence of a controlled substance. Police say they searched the vehicle, and found a marijuana smoking device, and a loaded .40 caliber pistol with obliterated serial numbers.

Twenty four-year-old Jayson Herron, of West Virginia, who is prohibited from possession firearms and ammunition, was arrested. He was charged with possession of marijuana, regulated firearm:illegal possession, firearm possession with felony convictions, handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, and knowingly alter firearm ID number - obliterated serial number.

Herron was then transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center.
