SALISBURY, Md. - An attempted murder suspect is on the loose in Salisbury.

"He is a 63-year-old black male and he is considered armed and dangerous," says Lt. Jason King with the Salisbury Police Department.

Salisbury Police say just before 3:30 Wednesday morning, they responded to West Main Street for a report of a person with a firearm. They reportedly found that 23-year-old Sharrelle Cole had been shot while walking in the 800-block of West Main Street.

Police say it was Johnson Junior who pulled the trigger and he is currently on the loose.

"We do not believe this was a random act based on our initial investigation," say King. "That being said, until Mr. Johnson is taken into custody, we would certainly implore people to call police, do not approach him."

According to court documents, Johnson has a criminal history. In 2008, he reportedly pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and was convicted.

"All I really know is he's a hot head," says an acquaintance who frequents Penn Street, where Johnson Junior lives. "He was acting a little weird around here lately, looking like he was worn out and drugged out."

47 ABC reached out to residents near the shooting. Many of them did not know about the incident, but those who did say they did not expect the news.

"It's just shocking that something like that would happen in this area," says Kevin Tillery, who frequents the VFW near the shooting. "I mean back in the day I heard it was notorious for a little violence, but for this to happen now is surprising it really is."

Salisbury Police say the Maryland State Apprehension Team is assisting with their search. Anyone with information should call Salisbury Police at 410-548-3165 or Crime Solvers at 410-548-1776. Crime Solvers will pay up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest.

The victim was shot in the buttocks and is reported in stable condition.
