UPDATED: Lake Forest School District Referendum Passed

Posted: Updated:

LAKE FOREST, Del. - A referendum used to increase security in schools in the Lake Forest School District has passed in a vote on Wednesday.

The unofficial vote count was 622 to 363. We are still waiting for the final confirmation.

The referendum will help the district pay off about $7.7 million in major capital investments used to make the district's schools safer. Though much of the money came from State and County funds, $1.3 million in bonds needs to be paid by the community.

Dr. Daniel Curry, Superintendent of Lake Forest School District, tells 47 ABC if approved this increase would cost tax payers just $13.00 the first year. That means for a house assessed at $100,000 it would amount to a total tax increase of $13.70 for the first year.

The funds would be used to relocate main offices, make buildings more secure and also to upgrade classrooms and athletic fields.
