On The Lookout: Scammers Target Dating Websites

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - Some believe that love is blind.

But investigators want to make sure these people are turning a blind eye when surfing for their soul mate.

Sgt. David Owens WBI tells 47 ABC they are dealing with theft from people on major dating websites. The crime is reportedly happening in the county, but not too often.

But these "get rich quick schemes", Owens says, are happening all too often online.

"People can tend to be vulnerable when it's matters of the heart," said Owens. "People have to put those same safeguards in place that they would if they are dealing with people in general public even though it's online."

If you have been scammed out of money, tell us about it. Give 47 ABC a call at 410-742-4747.
