Large Crowds Head To Berlin Memorial Day Festival

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. - Large crowds gathered in downtown Berlin to celebrate Memorial Day.

Members of the local Desert of Maryland group held their annual old fashioned celebration, which included vendor booths, games, music, and food. Members of the National Association of Black Veterans held their annual barbeque, open to all veterans and their families.

"It's very special for the veterans who made sacrifices for this country and for our rights and our freedom," says Melvin Bivens, with Abu Lahab Court 189. "We want to thank them."

"We do it in memory of our fallen vets," says Commander James Briddell, a veteran and member of the National Association of Black Veterans.

Both groups say dozens came out to enjoy the festivities, which took place outside of Berlin's William Henry Park.
