SU Women's Lacrosse Second Straight Wins National Championship

Posted: Updated:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Salisbury University women's lacrosse team defeated Trinity (Conn.) College for their second straight Division III National Championship Sunday.

Salisbury jumped on the board first just under 7 minutes into the game when Megan Wallenhorst would take the feed from Shannon Carta and put it home. Shortly after that, the Sea Gulls lead would stretch to 2-0 when Shelby Nemecek would score off another assist from Carta. Then Carta took over offensively herself, scoring the next three goals to give the Sea Gulls a 5-0 lead into the break.

Out of half, Trinity would score the first two goals to cut the deficit to 5-2. Salisbury then seemed to put the game away, scoring the next 4 goals to build a 9-2 lead with under 18 minutes to play. To their credit, Trinity didn't give in and scored four straight goals to cut the lead to 9-6, but eventually the Sea Gulls defense would lock down to seal the win.
