Fifth Coast Guard District Rescues Trio

Posted: Updated:

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Fifth Coast Guard District rescued a mother and two girls, after the three were reported to have been lost on Hog Island, last night.

The Coast Guard Sector Hampton Road Command Center says, on Sunday evening around 8 P.M., they received a call from the mother's boyfriend, who requested Coast Guard assistance. Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from an Air Station in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

The helicopter crew arrived, on scene, at approximately 9:30 P.M. and located the mother, her daughter, and her daughter's friend. A rescue swimmer was lowered, hoisted the mother and two girls into the helicopter and took them to Accomack County Airport in Melfa.

There was no word of trio's condition or how the three became lost.
