Ocean City Opens Doors For Summer Season

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - The town of Ocean City opened its doors for business Saturday, kicking off the summer tourist season.

Crowds flocked to the boardwalk to take in the sites, the sand and the snacks, after what felt like a very long winter.

"You know, everybody's had cabin fever all winter this year," said town Mayor Rick Meehan. "I think everybody's done with snow, done with the cold weather, and I think ocean city's prime for a really, really busy season."

There are plenty of activities set for this weekend, including the spring Arts and Crafts Show and the return of the OC Beach Lights.

"They're going to erect that great big sphere out on the beach and shoot the lasers all over," Meehan said Saturday. "And tonight's theme is going to be a patriotic theme, very fitting for the memorial day weekend."

The light show kicks off the season Saturday night with three showings at 9:30, 10 and 10:30. It will continue to run on Sundays through August 31.
