CENTREVILLE, Md. - Police in Queen Anne's County say they are investigating an apparent accidental shooting in Centreville.

The Office of the Sheriff for Queen Anne's County says emergency personnel responded to a home on Earle Branch Road, around 7:55 AM on Friday, for reports of an accidental shooting. When officials arrived on scene, they say they found 82-year-old Mary Martin, who was conscious, with one gunshot wound in her torso. The victim reportedly told Police that her husband of over 30 years had been showing her an old pistol that he had in a drawer, when it went off. Martin was air lifted to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Eighty-four-year-old Roy Martin told officials that his wife was lying on the couch in the living room when he was showing her an old .38 break top pistol that he had. Roy Martin reportedly said that he had never fired the gun, and thought that it was unloaded. According to the report, Roy Martin pulled the trigger once, and nothing happened, but on the second trigger pull it went off, hitting Mary Martin. Roy Martin reportedly stated that he immediately called 911, and placed a towel over his wife's wound until the medics arrived.

Police say the case remains open at this time, pending a review by the State's Attorney's Office.
