KENT CO., Del. - The National Weather Service has confirmed that it was an EF1 tornado that touched down on Thursday night in Kent County Delaware, damaging dozens of homes, and injuring two people.

Unprecedented devastation in Kent County, after high winds ripped through this neighborhood in Camden Wyoming early Thursday evening.

"mother nature's crazy" says Harry Richard.

Sgt. Paul Shavack, of the Delaware State Police, tells 47 ABC "a funnel cloud was spotted in the area where we're standing by multiple sources."

That storm hit the area around 5 PM, knocking over power lines and damaging more than a dozen homes, like this trailer. A metal part of the home completely destroyed after it was picked up and tossed 100 yards from the base.

Richard goes on to say "a neighbor called and said that um, bob, the neighbor's, house was gone."

The couple inside, a 51 year old husband and wife, were taken to Kent General with minor injuries. Police say the man was found on a mattress underneath a pile of rubble.

"He was probably under the debris for 10 to 15 minutes before being pulled from it." says Sgt. Shavack.

That was just one of at least four homes condemned according to police. One homeowner we spoke with had only lived in his house for two months before the storm damaged his roof, which crews worked through the night to repair. Harry Richard told 47 ABC he and his wife fortunately weren't home during the storm. Now that the winds have died down, they're not looking back.

"Ain't nothing to it but to do it. Fix it again and move on."

As police said, a "funnel cloud" was reported here Thursday evening, and now that is confirmed by the National Weather Service, officially ruling the storm a EF1 tornado. For those impacted by the storm, The Red Cross is set up at the Marydel Fire House. They have been out since Thursday night assessing damages, and assisting affected families.

Governor Markell visited the area on Friday afternoon. Jarred Hill will have more on that tonight at 6 PM.
