Ocean City Gets Ready For Hurricane Season - 47 ABC - Delmarva's Choice

Ocean City Gets Ready For Hurricane Season

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. – National Hurricane Awareness Week starts May 25th, and Ocean City is in preparation mode.

Wednesday night, the town's Emergency Services Department held a town hall meeting to educate citizens about hurricane preparedness, including how Ocean City tracks storms and plans for evacuations, even if the forecast isn't all that bad.

"We've certainly been brushed over the last few years by Sandy and Irene, so Hurricanes do strike the Atlantic Coastal Line and we're part of that," says Joe Theobald, Director of Emergency Services for the Town of Ocean City.

Initial reports point to a mild season but, as Joe says, "It just takes one hurricane striking Delmarva to be an active season for the entire region."

Theobald also stresses the importance of the public knowing the evacuation zones and having a family plan.
