Bill Could Lead To Hemp Research In Delaware

Posted: Updated:

DELAWARE -- A new bill in Delaware would open a door in the legality of cannabis, but not to smoke it, rather, for the use of hemp.

The bill would allow colleges, universities, and the state's Department of Agriculture to study the growth, cultivation, and marketing of industrial hemp.

Hemp has a negligible amount of THC (the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis), and can be used for non-dairy milk, clothing, even auto-parts.

It can also be used to remove excess phosphorus from chicken litter, which could help local farmers who might be facing phosphorus restrictions.

12 states currently have laws allowing hemp production.
