DSU Not Raising Tuition For 2014-15 School Year

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - A local university says they will not be increasing tuition in the upcoming year.

Delaware State University says they are making affordability their priority, by not increasing their tuition, housing, and fees for the 2014-2015 academic year. Officials say in-state will stay $7,336 and out-of-state tuition will remain $15,692, as they have been for the last two years. The cost to live on campus, in traditional housing, and the cost of meal plans will also both stay unchanged.

The DSU Board of Trustees decided to leave the rates as is, during a special executive board meeting on Wednesday. Dr. Claibourne D. Smith, board chair said "This is a major step on our part to recognize our responsibility as members of the higher education community to control our costs and alleviate the burden on our students and their families. We have chosen to make major changes in how we operate so that we do not have to increase the weight of tuition and fees on the backs of students."

DSU has reportedly not raised fees or tuition since the 2012-2013 school year.
