One Killed, One Injured In Crash Near Lincoln

Posted: Updated:

LINCOLN, Del. - A crash that shut down an intersection near Lincoln Tuesday afternoon killed one person and left another injured.

A Pontiac Firebird heading north on Cedar Creek Road, approximately three-tenths of a mile south of Johnson Road, reportedly entered the southbound lane onto the path of an oncoming dump truck. The driver of the vehicle swerved to correct, but wound up back in the truck's path.  The two collided and both vehicles were sent into a roadside ditch.

According to Delaware State Police, the Firebird went up in flames with the driver still inside. That person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have yet to release their identity. The driver of the dump truck, 65-year-old James Daisey of Lincoln, was transported to the hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

This is an ongoing investigation.
