Parkside Baseball Outlasts Poolesville, Advances to 2A Title Game

Posted: Updated:

Silver Spring, MD.- The Parkside Rams baseball team jumped on the previously undefeated Poolesville Falcons, and never stopped believing they would win on their way to a 5-4 win.

Parkside senior Kyle Skilling would get the start for the Rams, as they came in expecting a dog fight from the Falcons (20-0). After two scoreless innings by both teams, including dazzling pitches by Skilling and Poolesville starter Thayer Seely, Parkside was first on the board. Junior La'Bron Hilliard plated one on a bunt single, and the Rams would get two more runs on a Jack Goertzen single, leading 3-0 after 3 innings.

But Poolesville would not go away without a fight, the Falcons got two runs in the sixth, and one in the seventh to tie the game after seven.

Parkside would have the bases loaded with one out, but fail to score in the top of the eighth. The Rams would score the go ahead run in the top of the ninth as Goertzen's RBI single would plate Hilliard. The Rams would turn to their ace Hunter Parsons to close it out. Parsons struck out two in the ninth and get a pop fly to center to send Parkside to the 2A championship game.

The Rams will play for the 2A crown against Southern Anne Arundel on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Cal Ripken stadium in Aberdeen, MD.
