81 Mathletes Compete For Math 24 Champion Title In Wicomico Co.

WICOMICO CO., Md. - Mathletes across Wicomico County competed for the title of Math 24 champion on Tuesday night.

21 schools collectively sent 82 of their top competitors to participate in the card game. Students are essentially given a card with four numbers on it and have to come up with how to make the number 24 through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division, but the level of difficulty varies for each age group.

"It gives students an opportunity to excel in mathematics, basic math is always something that students should excel at in order to do any type of problem solving in their life," says Jason Miller, principal of Westside Intermediate School. "They were very excited for this."

M&T Bank sponsored the event for the eighth year in a row. Each grade in the competition had four winners:
