Laser Pointers, Assisted-Opening Knives Banned In OC

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Laser pointers are officially banned in Ocean City.

Town council members say they voted tonight on the emergency ordinance, which also includes a ban on "assisted-opening knives," which are blades that open by pressing a button.

Over the past three years, Ocean City Police say they've responded to nearly 1,000 laser pointer-related calls alone.

The town previously had an ordinance for misusing the lasers. Now, anyone that is caught selling or possessing either item can face up to a $1,000 fine and/or 90 days in jail.
