Dover Woman Succumbs To Injuries Sustained In May 12th Crash

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - A Dover woman has died of injuries sustained during a crash with a Police vehicle, earlier in May.

Delaware State Police say on May 12th, 37-year-old Marie Voltaire, of Dover, was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla, South on Route 113 in the right lane, near Speedway Road. According to the report, for unknown reasons, the Corolla drifted to the left, crossing two lanes of traffic, ending up on the grass median where it hit a fully marked Delaware State Police 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, head on.

Police say the 31-year-old male Trooper, was parked in the center median monitoring traffic for an Office of Highway Safety sponsored seat belt-enforcement detail, with no lights or sirens on.

The Trooper was taken to Beebe Medical Center, by ambulance, and treated for minor injuries, before being released. Voltaire, and her passenger, 63-year-old Anezia Valette, were both rushed to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Voltaire was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries. Valette was admitted, and later died at the hospital on May 16th.

Police say the occupants in both vehicles were all wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. On May 12th, the day of the crash, Voltaire was given a traffic summons for failing to remain in a single lane. The Delaware State Collision Reconstruction Unit is reportedly continuing to investigate this crash.
