Lewes Community Honors Mayor Jim Ford

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - The community of Lewes honored one of their leaders today for his decade of service.

The appreciation event kicked off earlier Sunday afternoon with a number of guest speakers, including Delaware Governor Jack Markell. Decked out in luau attire , folks showed up for the retirement party of Mayor Jim Ford, who is perhaps best known for sporting Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops.

"Mixed emotions today, it's a wonderful time to say goodbye to the community and wonderful way to do that, and it's time for me to move on and do some other things with my life," says Mayor Jim Ford. "I've made wonderful friends and it's just a beautiful community."

Mayor Ford was presented a tribute book with certificates from various organizations, and a plaque will be mounted in his honor on the Net House at the Canalfront Park.
