One Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Roxana

ROXANA, Del. - Delaware State Police say 27-year-old Scott Maxwell of Bethany Beach was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Pyle Center Road Friday evening.

According to reports, the crash occurred at 9:19 PM as a 2007 Honda Civic traveled north on the road, north of the intersection with Frankford School Road. An initial investigation reportedly indicates the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and upon encountering a slight left curve in the roadway, entered the southbound lane.

In an apparent attempt to return to the northbound lane, the driver reportedly turned sharply to the right and lost control of the vehicle. Police say it rotated clockwise while traveling northward, and left the right side of the roadway. The vehicle reportedly continued traveling north and its driver's side struck and severed a utility pole.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly properly restrained at the time of the crash and his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Police say there were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Pyle Center Road was reportedly closed for approximately three-and-a-half hours as the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the crash.
