Almost 500 Students Celebrate Graduation At UMES

Posted: Updated:

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Friday's Good News this evening goes out to all the graduates who walked across the stage this morning at the university of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Nearly 500 undergrad and grad students turned their tassels in Princess Anne at the school's 127th commencement.

John Lewis, a Civil Rights icon and US House Democrat gave the commencement speech.

47 ABC asked some of the grads to share their experiences and words of wisdom before the ceremony.

"The relationships that we built here, professional and personal and the people here on really seasoned professionals," said Human Ecology major Brittany Johnson, from Crisfield, MD.

Leffery Locklear of Onancock, VA said what got him through was "my parents sacrificed and they taught me to be dedicated to whatever I start, finish it.  The same thing coming to school here.  I started and now I'm finishing four years later."

And the key to post-graduate success?  Samantha Lord of Cambridge, a Hospitality Services major said "so, just get involved...and you can get a job."

Congratulations to all the graduates!
