On The Lookout: Recent Abuse Of Heroin In Maryland

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - Fentanyl-laced heroin overdoses spiked over the past few months in Maryland, the Eastern Shore among the areas affected.

But investigators say while the surge has eased a bit overdoses are still a problem and not just with the fentanyl-laced stuff: garden-variety heroin and methadone are always threats.

Wicomico Bureau of Investigation says that the county is riding the middle of the wave right now as far as statistics go with the possibility of another peak in overdoses and arrests.

"What we need as a community to monitor are the folks that are close to us and the change in behavior," said Sgt. David Owens. "More times than not the people that are victimized are so by the people they know."

Owens says investigators expect to see a rise in substance abuse when or if thefts increase.
