UD & DSU Could Be Forced To Disclose Inner Workings To Public

Posted: Updated:

DELAWARE - The University of Delaware and Delaware State University may soon have to disclose their inner workings to the public.

Both are currently exempt from Delaware's Freedom of Information Act and are only required to release information regarding the expenditure of public funds. Which is why Representative John Kowalko (D-Newark) is sponsoring a bill to slash that exemption, claiming it's vital that the public knows in detail about decisions that could very well affect the public.

"The University of Delaware for instance has had a situation where they've gotten rid of the men's track and field, cross country without any explanation. There was a case a couple years ago with Del State with the questions about someone's position as a procurement officer. None of these things were adequately presented to the public," He said.

Representative Kowalko says the bill has a lot of support and is pending a committee hearing.
