Delaware Lawmakers Look To Protect Student Athletes

DELAWARE - Almost 400,000 people in the U.S. suffer from Sudden Cardiac Arrest each year, and less than 10 percent survive. It's also the number one cause of death of student athletes during practices and games.

Which is why Delaware lawmakers want to toughen laws that protect them. There's a bill on the table that would require students to complete a heart history questionnaire, and sign a cardiac arrest information sheet prior to practices and games. Head coaches would also be trained on the use of an automated external defibrillator and CPR.
