Six SU Women's Lacrosse Players Earn All-Region

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Six Salisbury University women's lacrosse players were names to the  Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association 2014 Division III Chesapeake All-Region teams, the organization announced Monday. Senior Ashton Wheatley and juniors Bethany Baer, Shelby Nemecek and Laura Maskell were selected as first-team recipients, while seniors Shannon Carta and Meghan Toomey made their way onto the second team.

Starting goalkeeper Wheatley has continued to impress the nation with her unpenetrated skill in the cage, making first-team all-region for the third-consecutive year. Starting midfielder Baer landed on first-team all-region for the second-straight year, recording 40 goals and 11 assists for 51 points so far this season. Starting attacker Nemecek has been honored with her first all-region selection, recording a team-high 60 goals and five assists for 65 points.

Starting defender Maskell made her way on to first-team all-region for the second-consecutive year after playing another great season on the back line. Starting attacker Carta claimed her first-time honor on the all-region team, recording 36 goals and 25 assists for 61 points this season. Starting defender Meghan Toomey landed on the all-region team for the second-straight year, claiming honors on first team in 2013.

SU will welcome Augustana (Ill.) College to Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday, May 17, with first draw set for 11:30 a.m. Franklin & Marshall College and the State University of New York at Geneseo will travel to Salisbury as well for another regional semifinal matchup on Saturday, with the winners of both games advancing to the regional final on Sunday. The start time for that match is 1 p.m.
