After Hurricane Sandy, Somerset Co. Preparations Begin Early

Posted: Updated:

SOMERSET CO., Md. - Somerset County is gearing up for hurricane season early this year.

Emergency services officials tell 47 ABC, the county has made an agreement with local pharmacies to pay for prescriptions not covered by insurance for people who evacuate to shelters during emergencies.

Officials say during Hurricane Sandy, medication was either destroyed by the water or people left without it, and while the county managed, they did not have a protocol in place.

They are reportedly working out an agreement with FEMA on how to get reimbursed with the costs, which may depend on whether or not FEMA declares the emergency a federal disaster.
