Growing Green With Community Gardens In Salisbury

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A new group in Salisbury is trying to make the city a greener place to live.  The group, GreenSBY, is made up of city leaders, gardeners, and people interested in starting gardens throughout Salisbury.

They say community gardens offer a number of benefits: addressing vacant urban land, potentially training a workforce, and helping to bring fresh produce to the community.

"At this point, the focus is purely on sharing knowledge, sharing resources, and maybe identifying a few opportunities or projects for community gardening in particular neighborhoods," says City Council President, Jake Day.

There has been a plot of land in the north Camden area that's a potential garden, but no movement has been made on it yet.

The next meeting for GreenSBY is scheduled for May 13th at 5:30pm, at the HALO Community Garden on South Boulevard.
