Snow for Colorado in May - 47 ABC - Delmarva's Choice

Snow for Colorado in May

Snow is practically unheard of in May on Delmarva, but it's a different story in Colorado.  Denver, CO sees an average of 1.7 feet of snow in the month of May (since 2003 that monthly total has only been exceed twice).  Currently (5/11) there are numerous Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories across a majority of Colorado and the mountains to the north.  A low pressure system located over Southwest Utah is forcing cold and moist air up and over the mountains allowing for plenty of snow to fall.  West of Denver and in the high elevations snowfall rates will be close to 1"-2" per hour overnight with totals reach 1'-2' with isolated spots seeing 3'.  In the foothills some snow bands will produce 2" per hour snowfall totals, with less than a foot expected.  In the valley plains, snowfall rates shouldn't exceed 0.5" per hour with 4"-9" of snow expected in the Denver area.    Attached is a map of predicted snowfall totals across Colorado and some surrounding states.  For more info click here.
