Newark Woman Charged With DUI After Single-Vehicle Crash

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. - Maryland State Police say they charged a Newark woman with a DUI today after a single-vehicle crash.

According to reports, around 9:24 AM, troopers from the Maryland State Police Barracks "V" Berlin responded to an overturned single vehicle collision. Troopers reportedly learned from a witness that Root was traveling South Bound on 113 South of Georgetown Road when Root's vehicle left the roadway, continued traveling on the grassy median, struck a culvert then overturned twice. Root was reportedly transported to PRMC for injuries.

Police say it was also determined that there were two children ages 8 and 14 at Root's residence. Troopers reportedly responded to the location to check on their welfare, and the Worcester County Department of Social Services was subsequently contacted and responded.

Upon Troopers' arrival to PRMC, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was reportedly detected on Root. Police say Root was subsequently charged with DUI, and remains at PRMC for injuries.
