Easton Police Arrest Severn Man For Burglary

EASTON, Md. - The Easton Police Department says they arrested a Severn man on burglary-related charges yesterday.

According to reports, Easton Police were summoned to Enterprise Rental Cars, located on Erickson Drive, regarding a burglary and motor vehicle theft. Police say someone had broken into the business and also stolen property from the business to include a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Police say while investigating the matter, they received a phone call advising that the vehicle that was stolen was towed in Queen Anne's County. The driver of the vehicle, John Robert Brooks, 44, of Severn, Maryland, had reportedly been arrested for stealing gasoline. Police traveled to Queen Anne's County where Brooks was being held and reportedly placed him under arrest.

Reports say Brooks was formally charged with Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle, Burglary 2nd Degree, Burglary 4th Degree, Theft $1,000 to $10,000, and Malicious Destruction of Property. Brooks was reportedly taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance Hearing in Talbot County, and at the conclusion of the hearing, he was remanded to the Talbot County Detention Center on $15,000 bond. Police say there is also a detainer for Brooks for $20,000 for the charges he faces in Queen Anne's County surrounding the theft of gasoline, and remains in jail as he awaits trial in both counties in these matters.
