On The Lookout: Why Some Investigation Details Are Left Untold

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - There are many details about alleged rape at Parkside High School that are still unknown, much of which won't be released to the public for quite some time.

Sgt. David Owens of WBI says there are a few reasons for this, one being that it could affect public perception if and when the case does go to court.

But this isn't just with the alleged rape, it's a policy for murders, bank robberies and even credit card fraud.

With the case at-large, Wicomico Bureau of Investigation is reviewing surveillance video from the school. Jocori Scarborough can reportedly be seen grabbing the victim around the waist and moving her to an area in the school not under surveillance.

For the public, there's more that's unknown. What's going on in the background, according to Owens, consists of investigators conducting witness interviews, looking at physical evidence, reviewing backgrounds of victims and suspects and putting all of that information into a comprehensive list.

"We have to hold those kind of things, because we're balancing information against what we're told," said Owens. "If we put it out then we don't have anything to put it against, anything to corroborate it against. Ultimately all those things get disclosed once a trial occurs."

Because Scarborough was charged, investigators are up against the clock with finishing up all of their background work, which happens with any case that's charged.

Owens says the public input and any information is necessary with finding the complete facts.
