Electric Car Charging Stations Up For Discussion In Rehoboth

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Charging stations for electric cars could be on the way to Rehoboth Beach.

City commissioners are reportedly discussing whether to partner with DNREC and the University of Delaware's statewide plan of implementing sustainable energy sources.

Commissioner Stan Mills tells 47 ABC, there would likely be two stations to come to the town. However, there are still questions about costs to install and maintain them, and whether the city government or a private company would be in charge of owning the spots. At the same time, Mills says it could promote bringing cleaner fuels and more attraction to the town.

"It could establish downtown Rehoboth Beach as a destination to charge car batteries but also afford those car owners the opportunity to spend time in our lovely city, with our hundreds of unique shops and accommodations and fine dining establishments," says Mills.

Mills says the city manager plans to do more research on the project and commissioners will then discuss it further within the next month.
