EASTON, MD.- For the second year in a row, the Mardela Warriors are Bayside Champions. Riding a strong, complete game performance from senior Taylor Harcum, Mardela got two early runs and held on to the lead.
The only runs of the game came in the top of the second inning after Mardela's Kalie Adkins doubled to center field. After moving to third, Adkins scored on a single by Sam Pope. Pope stole two bases and ended up scoring Mardela's second and final run of the game on a passed ball.
The two runs would prove to be more than enough room for Harcum to operate. The left-hander seemed to be in total control, getting out of a couple jams early, while allowing just four hits and going all seven innings. Harcum finished with nine strikeouts.
Mardela looks to use this momentum to jolt them into the 1A East Playoffs, as they receive a one seed and first round bye. Mardela will host the winner of Thursday's Crisfield vs. Washington matchup.
Easton, last year's 2A State Champions, look to rebound as they head into postseason play as they also receive a one seed and first round bye, and will host the winner of Thursday's Queen Anne's vs. Parkside matchup.
