UPDATE: Parkside HS Student Charged With Rape

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A 17-year-old Parkside High School student was reportedly charged with rape on Monday.

According to court documents, the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation was contacted by a School Resource Deputy on May 5th, who advised that a 15-year-old female student reported a sexual assault to the school administration. The student reportedly said that she was assaulted by another male student, Jocori Scarborough, 17, of Delmar, Maryland.

Court documents say on May 5th at around 8:00 AM, the 15-year-old victim was walking with Scarborough, who made continued sexual advances towards her. Court documents say Scarborough grabbed the victim by the arm and pulled her down the hallway, with a tight grip on her arm, refusing to let go. Despite the victim continuously fighting him off, saying "no," documents say Scarborough forced sexual intercourse.

"Our most important critical piece of it is to take care of the young lady, we are attentive to what's happening in her life and taking care and supporting her in whatever manner is appropriate," says Dr. John Frederickson, superintendent of Wicomico County Public School District. "As we dig deeper, we'll have more information whether its from surveillance footage from the school, or from the bus, or from comments we might get on our tip lines."

Scarborough is reportedly being charged as an adult with first and second degree rape, assault first degree, reckless endangerment, assault second degree, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and molestation. According to his Facebook, he is a member of DDE, a group behind a controversial music video that went viral last October. The video includes Salisbury teens and young adults showcasing weapons and threatening lyrics.

State's Attorney, Matt Maciarello, tells 47 ABC that Scarborough was initially being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center, on $100,000 bond on Tuesday, but was released after posting bond by 6 PM. According to court documents, a preliminary heading has been scheduled for May 15th at the Wicomico County District Court.

"We're reviewing our code of conduct, use of video surveillance, and any other tools that we may be able to tweak or adjust even if it's to make it one step more safe," says Dr. Frederickson.

School leaders are urging anyone with any information to e-mail comments@wcboe.org or call 410-677-5251.
