Sunday Morning Accomack County Shooting Suspect Behind Bars

ACCOMACK CO., Va. - A Melfa man has been arrested, in connection with a weekend shooting in Accomack County.

Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin says on Sunday, just after 2:25 AM, the Sheriff's Office received a report of an altercation at on Back Street, near Melfa. As Deputies were making their way to the scene, they received more information that someone had been shot at the same address.

Once on scene, Police reportedly found one victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the body, and a suspect found nearby was taken into custody.

The victim was treated at Sentara Norfolk Hospital, and released. The suspect, 31-year-old James Rankin, was arrested, and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held at the Accomack County Jail, with bond denied.
