Voters May Be Able To Register On Election Day In DE

Posted: Updated:

DELAWARE - Voting could become a little easier in the first state.

According to reports, a bill that would allow Delawareans to register to vote when they arrive at the polls on Election Day cleared the Senate Administrative Services/Elections Committee this week. The measure reportedly passed 24 to 15 last month in the House,  and has not been placed on the Senate agenda.

Currently, the deadline for voter registration is the fourth Saturday prior to the date of the election, but the measure would permit same day registration at polling places with submission of valid government issued identification or other generally accepted proof of identification.

If passed, it would reportedly go into effect just before the general election in November.
