PRINCESS ANNE, Md. : The UMES baseball team was swept on the road at Norfolk Saturday afternoon, 12-2 and 7-1. The Hawks managed just 13 hits between the two games and have now lost their last three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contests.
Despite the loss, Senior Byron Campbell continues to perform. He combined to go 4-for-7 with two hits in each game to up his streak of consecutive games reached base safely to 27. The Spartans grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the 2nd in game one, and continued to pour it on from there. Norfolk State scored six runs on seven hits to blow the game open in the fourth. The push gave NSU a 7-2 lead.
In game two, Spartan starter Matt Outman cruised through the first few innings and benefitted from a three-run homer by Kyriacou as NSU led 6-0 in the fourth. Outman notched his third complete game of the season and allowed five hits in seven innings.
UMES looks to salvage the series with a win as the Hawks and Spartans conclude the weekend with a 1 p.m. game tomorrow at Hawk Stadium.
