Environmental Center Opens On Tilghman Island

Posted: Updated:

TILGHMAN ISLAND, Md. - The Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is opening its doors today -- and they opened with an earth day celebration.

Kids and families were out on Tilghman Island, learning about the environment with the help of exhibits, a touch tank with rescued animals, a puppet show, and recycled boat races.

47 ABC spoke with one grad student from the University of Maryland about the message they hoped to get across.

"At this age, particularly introducing people to the vocabulary...00:48 whether it's through puppetry or recycling," says Andrew Moiseff a Sustainable Development grad student at the University of Maryland, "getting them involved...you know, engaged I think is our modest goal here."

The Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is open Thursday through Monday from 10 to 4 just past the bridge on Tilghman Island.
