UPDATE: City Of Seaford Responds To Lawsuit Settlement

Posted: Updated:

SEAFORD, Del. - A local City who's Police Department recently settled a lawsuit with a man accusing them of Police abuse, has released a statement.

The City of Seaford released a statement that reads "Based on the facts alleged in the claim and discussions with our legal counsel the City of Seaford authorized settlement of Mr. Johnson's law suit against the City for $270,000.00. The amount of the settlement will be paid under the coverage provided by the City's Law Enforcement Liability insurance policy. The Police Department has already reviewed and implemented policies to insure proper and appropriate response by officers confronting difficult situations in the performance of their duties. This is the City's response to inquiries regarding this settlement."

The statement was signed by acting Mayor David C. Genshaw.

The lawsuit stems from a September 2011 traffic stop where Reginald Johnson was pulled over, and reportedly thought to be another man.
