WICOMICO CO., Md. - Conflict is brewing at the Wicomico County Education Association.
Kelly Stephenson, the group's former president was reportedly locked out of the office with other board members, and was recalled as the group's president.
The change allegedly comes after Stephenson announced a vote to amend the group's bylaws, that require WCEA members to be affiliated with the larger state and national education associations. Now, Robin Cockey, a Salisbury attorney, has field a complaint on her and other board members' behalf.
"The interim managers, the folks who are currently occupying the officers of the association, controlling its bank accounts, were not elected and in our view they have no authority to be doing any of these things," says Cockey.
Some WCEA members reportedly feel that making the affiliation optional would dismantle the union, and that the affiliation adds to their strength.
