DOVER, Del. - A Kent County middle school teacher faces sex abuse charges after she allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old student from her class.

According to reports, 22-year-old Stephanie Seabury, an English teacher at Fred Fifer III Middle School, turned herself in to the Dover Police Department around 7:00 AM Monday Morning.

Police say they started their investigation on March 12th, 2014, after becoming aware of the situation. That investigation reportedly showed that Seabury and the student met on multiple occasions, at a prearranged location, then they would drive back to Seabury's apartment in Woodmill Apartments, in Dover.

Police say on February 26th, 2014, Seabury had sexual intercourse with the 13-year-old victim, at Seabury's home, after driving him there after school. There is reportedly surveillance footage of the two leaving the school and walking to Seabury's vehicle, around 3:45 PM, on that date. Police say the two also exchanged several explicit phone messages and photographs during the inappropriate relationship.

Seabury was charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust or authority stemming from the investigation. Dover Police say Seabury was issued a $40,000 secured bond Monday morning.

Below is a statement from Caesar Rodney School District Superintendent Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald,

"Upon learning of alleged inappropriate behavior of a Fred Fifer III Middle School (FMS) teacher with a student, the Caesar Rodney School District immediately contacted the appropriate law enforcement agency," said Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, Superintendent, Caesar Rodney School District.  "The district has since continued to work with law enforcement and the Attorney General's office during their investigation.

The teacher, Stephanie Seabury, has been suspended with pay since the initial report. The district will take the appropriate personnel action as dictated by state and federal regulations.

Fifer Middle School will offer assistance to any child or staff member who may benefit from counseling. A letter will be sent home today to all parents/guardians of Fifer Middle School children."
