One Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near Milton

Posted: Updated:

MILTON, Del. - Delaware State Police say a Milton man was killed in an early morning crash on Cedar Creek Road today.

According to reports, a preliminary investigation indicates that Andrew Rottmann, 28, was traveling south on Cedar Creek Road in a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high speed.

In the area of Isaacs Road, the vehicle allegedly exited the right (western) edge of the road as Rottmann attempted to negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway. The vehicle reportedly reentered the roadway and crossed into the northbound lanes. Rottmann, attempting to regain control, reportedly overcorrected, and the vehicle began to rotate clockwise while leaving the right side of the roadway.

Police say the passenger side of the vehicle struck a utility pole, causing the vehicle to abruptly change direction and rotate counterclockwise. It reportedly came to rest on the shoulder of the southbound lane.

Police say Rottmann was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly properly restrained at the time of the crash. Police say Cedar Creek Road was closed for approximately three hours as Troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
