NJ Man Charged With DUI After Crash In Worcester Co.

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER CO., Md. - Maryland State Police say they charged a New Jersey man yesterday after a crash in West Ocean City.

According to reports, Russell Robert Rowles, 52, of Newark, and Donald Wayne Gaskill, 50, of Carneys Point, NJ, were traveling through the West Ocean City area in order to attend the 2014 Bikes to the Beach Spring Rally being held in Ocean City.  Both Rowles and Gaskill were reportedly acquaintances and attending the event together.

As they traveled east along US Route 50, police say they attempted to make a turn onto southbound MD Route 611 in order to refuel at a nearby gas station.  While making the turn, Gaskill reportedly steered his 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle into the 1999 Harley Davidson driven by Rowles.  Subsequently, Rowles allegedly lost control of his motorcycle and it went down.  Police say he suffered injuries and was transported to PRMC in Salisbury by ambulance.

Gaskill was not apparently injured, but police say evidence suggested he may have been impaired.  Gaskill reportedly unsatisfactorily performed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested.  Police say Gaskill was transported to the MSP Berlin Barrack, but he refused to submit to a breath test, and he was subsequently charged with the collision event and the DUI.
