Pocomoke City Man Raises Awareness For Upcoming Kidney Walk

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The 2014 Salisbury Kidney Walk is just over a week away!

The event funds lifesaving programs that educate and support patients, their families and those at risk.

Robert Dehart of Pocomoke City is one of those patients. He turned diabetic at the age of twenty. As a result, his kidneys failed and he became legally blind. But after multiple surgeries and transplants, his vision is restored, and he is no longer diabetic. His efforts now are focused on raising awareness.

"It just takes your life away slowly. It eats at you and I was very fortunate I never lost any limbs or anything like that. I did lose my eyesight but it's very important. The main thing is for people to take care of themselves and keep a positive attitude," he said.

47 ABC meteorologist Daniel Johnson will be there to emcee the event. The walk will be held at Winterplace Park on May 4th. Check- in starts at 9 a.m. and the race starts at 10 a.m.
