Red Light Cameras Reportedly Reducing Crashes In Delaware

Posted: Updated:
DOVER, Del. - Are red light cameras reducing crashes? The First State says their program appears to be working.

A state report shows Delaware's red-light cameras are reducing the frequency of dangerous crashes at 30 intersections. DelDOT tells 47 ABC that crashes from running red lights dropped nearly 30 percent. Also, there was close to a 50 percent reduction in angle crashes.

"We've seen citations come down over the last couple of years overall for the whole program, so that does indicate that driver behavior is changing and that people are stopping at red lights and not running them," said Adam Weiser, safety programs manager for DelDOT.
