Honoring The Elite: Salisbury Unveils "Champions Way"

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Our Good News comes from right outside our studio on the Downtown Plaza, where the monthly Third Friday event in Salisbury officially unveiled "Champions Way."

Schools officials and their beloved mascots were on hand honoring past champions from Salisbury University, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the Delmarva Shorebirds!

Next time you're on the plaza, check out the aluminum flags hanging from the light posts. Each commemorates all of the 26 winning teams from each organization from 1963 to 2013.

"It's not something we expected, but it's greatly appreciated," said Dawn Chamberlin, head coach of SU field hockey, which last won a national championship in 2009. "I think it's a neat thing for the university, for the Shorebirds and for UMES to have all these teams recognized."

Other champions include the 1963 UMES Track and Field squad and last year's women's lacrosse team at SU.
