DE Reaches "Tax Freedom Day"

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - Residents of the First State can now, theoretically, keep their hard-earned cash in their pockets for the rest of the year.

It's been dubbed as "Tax Freedom Day." A research group calculates how many days of work it takes Americans to pay off all of their taxes each year.

For Delawareans this year, the group determined it took 108 days to completely pay off federal, state and local taxes.

"If people actually had to work from January 1st to April 18th to pay their tax obligations, I think you would see a demand for change." said Rep. Deborah Hudson (R-Dist. 12).

Virginia won't see its "Tax Freedom Day" until April 24th. Marylanders will wait until April 28th.
