Woman, Young Girl Rescued In Berlin House Fire

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. -  Crews battled intense flames at a house fire in Berlin Thursday afternoon, where a woman and young child were trapped inside.

The call came in just before 6:30, and was quickly elevated as firefighters learned the pair were somewhere inside the home, which was engulfed in flames.

"Visibility was zero," said Marc Brown of the Berlin Fire Department. "We had to work off of information about where they could be inside because we couldn't see."

The woman was found on the second floor.

"We threw ladders and she was located and rescued," Brown said. "And then a second crew rescued the child from the first floor rear window."

The woman was taken to Atlantic General, and young girl is being treated in Baltimore. No word on their condition at this time.

Officials say it took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
