DOVER, Del. - Police are looking for two people, in connection to an investigation into an early morning home invasion and assault of an elderly man. Dover Police say they are investigating a home invasion, during which the 82-year-old male victim was apparently bound and stabbed, that happened around 12:45 AM Thursday morning on the 700 block of South Halsey Road.

The victim says he came home from a Dover restaurant, and was confronted by 33-year-old Shirley Smith, of Dover, who was an acquaintance of his, and an unknown black male. According to the report, the suspects forced the victim out of his car, into the house, then onto the ground of a back bedroom, where they tied his hands behind his back and bound his legs and feet together using wires and cords from around the house.

Police say the suspects then held a cutting object, possibly a knife, to the victim's ear, and demanded money from him. The victim apparently told the suspects where there was cash in his vehicle, and his bank card information. The suspects then apparently cut the victim's ear, and threatened to cut his ear off if he didn't cooperate, along with stabbing him multiple times in the back and torso area. Police say they think the suspects used kitchen knives from the victim's home in the assault and stabbing.

The two suspects apparently fled the home by stealing the victim's 2002 Buick LeSabre, which was later recovered on North Governors Boulevard, in the Capitol Park housing development on Bay Road.

Police say, after seven hours, the victim was able to free himself from the restraints, and call 911. He is now being treated at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for his injuries, and is expected to fully recover.

Police say they are looking for Smith, who is wanted on kidnapping 1st degree, robbery 1st degree, assault 1st degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by person prohibited, conspiracy 2nd degree, criminal mischief under $1,000, and theft of a motor vehicle charges. Police are also reportedly looking to identify, and talk to the man pictured here to the right.

Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of either suspect, is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7111, Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333, or the Tip Submit website.
