Crash In Little Creek Kills One, Sends Three To Hospital

LITTLE CREEK, Del. - A fatal motor vehicle crash that also injured three people, is under investigation in Little Creek.

Delaware State Police say the incident happened on Wednesday night, around 9:30 PM, as 20-year-old Zachary Bowman, of Odessa was driving a 1999 Dodge Neon on Bayside Drive - SR9 near South Little Creek Road.

The car was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, and Bowman reportedly lost control in a right curve, sliding counter-clockwise off the road, hitting a ditch and overturning ejecting the four passengers. Police say none of the occupants were wearing seat belts.

Bowman and 24-year-old Reese Carpenter, of Millington, the right rear seat passenger, were taken by EMS from the scene to Kent General Hospital, where they are both currently listed in serious condition. 19-year-old Lacey Pfahler, of Newark, the front seat passenger, was flown to Christiana Medical Center, where she is listed in serious condition. 20-year-old Brandon Maugle, of Townsend was taken to Kent General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit says they are continuing their investigation into this incident, and are considering both alcohol and speed as contributing factors. Bayside Drive - SR9, South of Little Creek was closed for about three hours, while the crash was investigated and cleared.
